Spring by Phill Mason
This is my score for the fabulous Blender movie - “Spring” in aid of Score Relief 2021..
Judging Criteria for the Competition. To score an original piece that could easily translate to a 27-piece chamber orchestra, which consists of: 4 1st Violins 4 2nd Violins 4 Viola 3 Cello 1 Double Bass 1 Flute 1 Clarinet 1 Oboe 1 Bassoon 2 Horns 1 Trumpet 1 Trombone 1 Percussion 1 Piano 1 Harp I kept within the confines of the 27-piece chamber orchestra and found my biggest challenge was only one percussionist.
There were many cuts throughout the movie where I wanted to use large cymbal swells alongside lush timpani rolls, but this just isn't possible with only 1 player. So although the restrictions were challenging, it made me think of alternate ways to create a similar feel, which I did with beautiful harp glissandos. I thoroughly enjoyed every minute composing a piece for the "Spring" movie.

This is my entry for the Spitfire Audio Bridgerton Scoring Competition 2022 - “Marrying For Love by Phill Mason” Had an absolute ball scoring this years competition from Spitfire Audio. The various scene, tempo and mood changes throughout this Bridgerton montage, provide a great challenge for us composers and I absolutely love, scoring to picture, this was so much fun to do, thank you Spitfire, Netflix and Kris Bowers for pulling this together and providing us with yet another first class scoring opportunity, very much appreciated. ?
